C-Dory 16' Angler & Cruiser - Construction

16' Cruiser shellThe fiberglass shell is fully hand laid with extensive use of balsa core composite construction. The use of balsa core in the bottom of the boat (1&7/8" over all thickness) eliminates the need for stringers or bulkheads to stiffen the bottom. You need not worry about a roller trailer damaging this bottom. Deep molded plank lines in the hull stiffen the sides with no increase in weight.

The hull and top deck are molded as separate parts and then fiber-glassed together while still in the mold to insure perfect alignment of the two parts and to eliminate any possibility of twist. No mechanical fasteners are used in the construction or assembly of the hull, house or its top. This construction method is slow but it provides a very strong, rigid light weight shell that is free of leaks or fatiguing joints. All color accent and top deck nonskid patterns are molded into the original casting. The interior of the hull and house are coated with two coats of Gelcoat with a light spatter finish. Only the highest quality gelcoats are used with all our products. Rub rails are of extruded aluminum. (All C-Dorys are made with custom made heavy duty rubrail.) A brass stem guard runs (4') from just under the bow eye, down the stem and under the bow. This guard helps protect the stem from impact with the trailer or from nosing the bow onto the ramp.
